Apple Pie Trifle

Ingredients

    • 1 tsp Lane’s Apple Pie Seasoning
    • 4 large apples (Granny Smith or Pink Lady), peeled, cored, and sliced 
    • 3 tbsp butter 
    • 2 tbsp brown sugar

    • 1 tsp Lane’s Apple Pie Seasoning 
    • 1/2 cup rolled oats 
    • 1/4 cup plain flour 
    • 1/4 cup brown sugar 
    • 1/4 cup butter, melted

    • Lane’s Apple Pie Seasoning, for garnish 
    • 1 store-bought sponge cake (or use homemade if preferred) 
    • 3 tbsp apple juice (or brandy if desired) 
    • 500ml custard (ready-made or homemade) 
    • 300ml thickened cream, whipped to soft peaks 
    • 1 tsp vanilla essence 
    • 1 tbsp icing sugar, sifted 
    • Oats for toasting

      1. In a large frying pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
      2. Add the apple slices, brown sugar, and Lane’s Apple Pie Seasoning.
      3. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 8–10 minutes, or until the apples are soft and golden, with a caramelised coating.
      4. Remove from heat and let cool completely.

      1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan-forced) and line a baking tray with baking paper.
      2. In a bowl, mix together the rolled oats, plain flour, brown sugar, melted butter, and Lane’s Apple Pie Seasoning until the mixture resembles clumps.
      3. Spread the mixture evenly on the prepared tray and bake for 10–12 minutes, or until golden and crisp.
      4. Allow to cool completely before using. The crumb will harden as it cools.

      1. In a large glass trifle bowl (or individual serving glasses), layer half of the sponge cake cubes at the bottom.
      2. Spoon half of the caramelised apples evenly over the sponge layer.
      3. Pour half of the custard over the apples, spreading it out evenly.
      4. Repeat the layers with the remaining sponge cake, apples, and custard.
      5. Gently fold the vanilla essence and icing sugar into the whipped cream.
      6. Spread the whipped cream over the top of the trifle.
      7. Add your oat crumb to the top and sprinkle with Apple Pie
