Ingredients
- 1 ½ Cups Salted ButterÂ
- 1 ¼ Cups Brown Sugar
- 2 ¼ Cups Plain FlourÂ
- 2 Eggs
- 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 tsp CinnamonÂ
- 2 Apples
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- ¼ tsp Nutmeg
- ½ tsp Salt
- ½ Icing SugarÂ
- 3 tbsp Maple SyrupÂ
-
2 tbsp Apple Pie Seasoning
Directions
- To start, preheat your oven to 350 °F/175 °C and line a baking dish with parchment paper.
- Next, melt the butter in a medium pot over medium heat until it turns a golden-brown colour and gives off a toasted aroma. This should take about 2-3 minutes but be sure to stir frequently to prevent burning. Remove from heat and stir in apple butter and 1 cup of brown sugar. Let the mixture cool for 5 minutes before whisking in the eggs and vanilla extract. Gradually add flour, baking powder, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to the mixture, stirring until just combined. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared dish.
- In a separate bowl, toss the sliced apples with 1/4 cup of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of Apple Pie seasoning. Spread the mixture evenly over the dough. Transfer to the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the centre is set. Let cool.
- Meanwhile, make the glaze by browning butter in a small pot set over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and whisk in maple syrup, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bars and let it set for 5 minutes before cutting them into bars.
- Snack and enjoy!
